When Friday comes along, my family and I always crave pizza! What better way to celebrate a hard work week than eating delicious pizza?! We used to grab a frozen pizza and eat that for our Friday night dinner, but then I realized it is far tastier to make our own pizza and it’s easy too! This homemade supreme pizza is made with thin-crust homemade pizza dough. You can find the recipe here. Smothered with your favorite red sauce, cheese, mixed greens, pepperoni, Italian sausage, bell pepper, mushrooms, and onion. So simple, yet tastes so good!

Equipment Needed

  • Pizza stone
  • Pizza peel
  • Working mat or surface
  • Rolling pin

Ingredients

  • Flour- This will help your pizza dough from sticking to the surface when rolling it out.
  • Pizza dough- Check out my homemade thin-crust pizza dough recipe here.
  • Cornmeal- Sprinkling a fine layer of cornmeal on the pizza stone will prevent the pizza dough from sticking. Cornmeal also adds an extra crunch and texture to the pizza crust.
  • Red sauce- Choose your favorite red sauce for this recipe. I like Newman’s Basil Red Sauce.
  • Cheese- Mozzarella cheese works best for this pizza. Mozarella is very stringy and bubbly, perfect for pizza!
  • Mixed greens- I like using baby spring mix for my greens, but you can use any greens. Spinach, arugula, lettuce, whatever you desire.
  • Pepperoni- I use mini pepperoni slices, but large would work as well.
  • Italian sausage- I’m not a fan of super spicy food, so I use mild Italian sausage. If you are a fan of spice, feel free to use hot Italian sausage.
  • Bell pepper- I use green bell pepper but feel free to add yellow, orange, or red bell pepper. Just make sure it is diced.
  • Mushrooms- Sliced baby Bella mushrooms taste great for this pizza!
  • Onion- Yellow onion sliced into thin pieces.

How to Make Homemade Supreme Pizza

  1. Preheat the oven to 450°F (232°C)  with the pizza stone inside.
  2. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the pizza dough into a 10-inch circle with a rolling pin. Start rolling in the center and work your way out. Make sure the bottom is not sticking to the surface. Apply small amounts of flour if needed.
  3. Carefully spread ½ cup of red sauce on your pizza dough. Add 1 ½ cups of mozzarella cheese, 1 cup mixed greens,  1 package( 3 ½ oz) of pepperoni, ¾ cup Italian sausage, 1 medium green bell pepper, ¼ cup mushrooms, and ½ cup onion. Spread evenly throughout the entire dough and top with the remaining 1 ½ cups of mozzarella cheese.
  4. Once the oven is heated, add ¼ cup of cornmeal to the pizza stone (be careful, it’s going to be hot!) Using a pizza peel, carefully transfer the pizza to the pizza stone in the oven. Bake for 12-14 minutes, or until the cheese is slightly browned and bubbly. Carefully remove from the oven and cool for at least 10 minutes. Slice the pizza on a cutting board and enjoy!

Tips

  • Using a ladle is an easy way to evenly spread the red sauce on the pizza dough.
  • Spread the cheese all over the pizza dough. When the pizza cooks, the cheese will pull to the center, so you want to make sure the cheese is spread entirely throughout the dough.
  • If you do not have a pizza peel, carefully remove the pizza stone from the oven using oven mitts and grabbing the handles. Before adding the toppings to the pizza, transfer the dough to the pizza stone with cornmeal already on it. Add all the toppings and place the pizza stone back into the oven.

How to Store

Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container for up to 4 days in the refrigerator. When you are ready to eat, either reheat in the microwave or oven. You can even eat it cold. Enjoy!
