When I was pregnant with my son, I craved smoothie bowls! The idea of fresh fruit always sounded so good, but I did not want to buy a smoothie bowl every day because that would be too much. Plus, that meant driving at least 30 minutes to buy one. No, thank you! That being said, I decided to make my own smoothie bowls and I am so glad that I did. I love how easy these smoothie bowls are to make and I am almost always full by the end of the meal. The thick and creamy smoothie base is made from strawberries, bananas, and almond milk. Topped with strawberries, blueberries, granola, peanut butter, local raw honey, and chia seeds. Of course, you can add or delete the toppings according to your preference, but that is the combination I prefer.  I eat this smoothie bowl multiple times a week, it’s that good!

Equipment Needed

  • Food processor or blender: I LOVE my food processor! I used to use a blender to make my smoothie bowls, but buying my food processor was totally worth it as it has been a game changer. So easy to use and easier to clean than a blender. It is a win-win situation!
  • Bowl: I would use a medium to large size bowl to put your smoothie and toppings in.

Ingredients for a Strawberry Banana Smoothie Bowl

Smoothie base:

  • Strawberry and banana blend (frozen): My local grocery store has a “sunshine blend” that is made up of frozen strawberries and bananas. If your local grocery store does not have this blend, you could buy fresh strawberries and bananas and freeze the berries yourself.
  • Banana (sliced): Using a fresh banana adds a creamy texture and consistency to make the perfect smoothie bowl.
  • Almond milk: I like using alternative milk for my smoothie bowls, but that is my preference. Other great alternative milk to try are oat milk, soy milk, and hemp milk.

Toppings (optional):

  • Blueberries: Fresh blueberries work best as a topping. If you only have frozen blueberries, be sure to thaw them in the refrigerator ahead of time. I recommend placing them in the refrigerator the night before to make sure they are ready by the time you make your smoothie bowl.
  • Strawberries (sliced): Fresh strawberries work best as a topping, but if you only have frozen strawberries I would thaw them in the refrigerator ahead of time. I recommend placing the frozen strawberries in the refrigerator the night before to make sure they are ready by the time you make your smoothie bowl.
  • Granola: My favorite type of granola is pumpkin flax seed. My local grocery store has this granola in bulk and I love it!
  • Peanut butter: I like unsweetened natural peanut butter. A local store allows customers to grind their own peanut butter from nuts which is amazing!
  • Honey I used local, raw, and unfiltered honey that I bought at a nearby farm. I love supporting local farms and their honey is so good!
  • Chia seeds A great source of fiber!

How to Store

Smoothie bowls are best served fresh, but if you have leftovers, you can store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. If you would like to prep ahead of time, I recommend storing the smoothie base separate from the toppings to prevent anything from going soggy.
