Instructions
Preparing the Fried Chicken:
Start by preheating your deep fryer or cast-iron skillet with vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).
In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix these dry ingredients thoroughly.
Dip each chicken breast into the buttermilk and then coat them evenly with the seasoned flour mixture. Make sure to press the flour onto the chicken to create a crispy crust.
Carefully place the coated chicken breasts into the hot oil, ensuring not to overcrowd the frying vessel. Fry for about 8-10 minutes until they are golden brown and cooked through.
Once done, use tongs to remove the fried chicken and place them on a wire rack to drain any excess oil. Keep them warm in the oven at a low temperature while you prepare the waffles.
Making the Buttermilk Waffles
Preheat your waffle iron and lightly grease it with cooking spray.
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
In a separate bowl, beat the eggs and then add the buttermilk and melted butter. Mix until well combined.
Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; a few lumps are okay.
Pour the waffle batter onto the preheated waffle iron, following the manufacturer's instructions. Cook until the waffles are golden brown and crisp.
To serve, place a crispy fried chicken breast on top of a warm buttermilk waffle and drizzle with your favorite maple syrup. I don't like maple syrup too much so I didn't add it.
Notes
u003cliu003eMake sure the chicken isn't too cold before cooking it. That way, it cooks all the way through and tastes really good.u003c/liu003eu003cliu003eWhen you make waffles, a tiny bit of salt makes them taste just right, not too sweet!u003c/liu003e
